NGORONGORO AND SERENGETI
In 2002 we went on safari in Tanzania with Unique Safaris. There we toured the Ngorongoro Crater, the world's largest inactive, intact, and unfilled volcanic caldera. The crater is 2,000 feet deep and its floor covers 100 square miles. We also visited Olduvai Gorge called the seat of humanity after the earliest known specimens of Homo habilis were discovered there. The final stop was the 5700 square mile Serengeti National Park (also a World Heritage Site) where we camped for several days. At every site, the animal encounters were unending and profound.
