Jardines de la Reina (Gardens of the Queen) is an archipelago 50 miles south of the Cuba mainland. Covering 840 square miles, the region has been a protected marine area since the 1980s. Encompassing 600 cays and islands and abundant reefs and mangroves, this marine sanctuary is blessed with healthy and abundant marine life. In 1996, the Cuban government began supporting research in the preserve; since that time experts believe that the fish population has increased 30%. In April, 2017, we dove “the Gardens” from the Jardines Aggressor I.
